UDP-6-N3-Glucose

UDP-6-N3-Glucose is a modified form of UDP-glucose, which is a universal donor for glycosyltransferases in the biosynthesis of glycoproteins, glycolipids, and polysaccharides. In this modified version, the nitrogen atom at position 3 of the glucose ring is substituted with an azide group (-N3). This modification is often used in biochemical studies as a chemical probe or as a handle for subsequent derivatization or labeling.

UDP-6-N3-Glucose can be synthesized enzymatically using UDP-glucose as the substrate and a specific UDP-glucose azide synthase. This enzyme catalyzes the transfer of an azide group from a suitable azide donor to the hydroxyl group at position 3 of UDP-glucose.
